Board Members Wanted!

Are you passionate about arts and arts education, the importance of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education (CR-SE), engaging people of all ages in shared experiences that support mental and physical wellness, creating connections and community across cultures and generations, improving quality of life for older adults, and cultivating valuable life skills in youth? Then we want you on our board! We are looking for professionals with skills to share and energy to spare, who want to give back to their communities in a meaningful way.

Multilingual speakers and people of diverse racial and gender identities are especially encouraged to apply, as we serve a highly diverse population. Approximately 70% of Twin Cities public schools students are youth of color, 60% are eligible for free or reduced lunch, and 40% call a language other than English their home language, with nearly 90 different languages spoken in the districts we serve. It’s crucial that our students of all generations see themselves reflected in the leadership of our organization and that their lived experiences are represented. And no dance experience is required!

About Heart of Dance

Through partner dance, Heart of Dance enables people to discover all they can be, offering youth, older adults, and others from diverse communities and all walks of life an environment in which to thrive. Our mission is to transform lives through the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of partner dance.

Our evidence-based, intergenerational programs transform the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of our clients, bringing them creativity, joy, self-expression, and community! Dancing Classrooms, the global SEL residency for elementary and middle schools, builds crucial life skills like teamwork, confidence, respect, persistence, and gender and multicultural acceptance through the lens of partner dance. Dance For Life enhances quality of life for older adults by improving social connectedness, balance and fitness, and enhancing mental focus to diminish or delay the effects of dementia.

What We Offer

  • Make a Difference – Do you want to help solve the social problems around you but don’t know what to do or where to start? Heart of Dance makes a tangible difference in our communities every day!

  • Resume Building – Employers look for well-rounded people who are invested in their communities. You will make connections and learn things that may help you in your career.

  • Joy and Fun – We do important work but we’re not a stodgy organization. Dance is joyful and we all could use more of that in our lives!

What We Expect

  • Participation – Consistent attendance at board meetings, currently held on Zoom, which occur every two months and last about 2 hours.

  • Personal Contribution - It is important that each director make an annual financial contribution. Support by 100% of the board is an important factor in grant applications. As everyone has different financial capabilities, however, there is no minimum required contribution.

  • Awareness & Growth - Attend a site visit for each of our two programs within 6 months of becoming a board member. Spread the word of our work by making connections to the community through your network.

Application Process

To apply, please download and complete the HOD Board Application Form and rename it with your last name at the end. Send the completed form, along with a resume or any other supporting information you’d like us to know about you, to the Chair of the Governance Committee with the subject line “Board Application”.

We look forward to hearing from you!
